Spend Some Time in South Ribble

Welcome to South Ribble, you’ll find plenty to see and do in Worden Park, only a short walk from the centre of Leyland, whether you would like to sit and relax in the parkland, explore the gardens, woodland and folly or have fun in the children’s playground. The park has Green Flag status and covers over 150 acres so you have plenty of space to try out the miniature railway, crazy golf, adventure playground, arboretum and garden for the partially sighted.

Visit www.visitleyland.co.uk to find out more and for details of events including the Leyland Festival.

When you fancy a break, escape to the countryside either right on the edge of town at Worden Park or slightly further afield at Longton Brickcroft. You can burn off some energy on the local cycle paths, with a brisk walk through lovely countryside and woodland or by taking on the long-distance Ribble Way footpath. If you fancy a more relaxing day out, just follow one of our shorter “Walks for Health” routes on the handy leaflets, join a guided walk to see our local history and countryside or go fishing at Longton Brickcroft or Farington Lodges.

Just up the road, relax and spend time re-living the past at Samlesbury Hall. Stroll round the Great Hall where you can almost smell the feasts that would have been served up in front of a huge, roaring fire or work up an appetite yourself by exploring the Tudor grounds and browsing round the locally produced creative art and design and antiques on display.

Leyland has a rich industrial heritage, much of it based around the world famous Leyland buses and trucks. Take yourself on a nostalgic journey at the British Commercial Vehicle Museum in Leyland. You can travel back to when the buses and trucks in the unique vehicle collection were in daily use in towns and villages across Britain and throughout the world. Wander at your leisure round the new Leyland Town Centre Heritage Walk where special boards show you how the commercial vehicle industry shaped Leyland and see carefully preserved items from Leyland’s past at the South Ribble Museum.

Whether you're interested in nature, arts, crafts, history or the outdoors South Ribble has something to offer.
